I created a web site for my kids' MMA gym AMA! apexfortsmith.cometcpolltexturlamatechwebdevwhatdoyouthinkaboutthis

I updated the logo to create a vector from the bitmap they gave me. I totally redrew the entire thing in Inkscape and just let myself be creative. Here's the old and new branding for comparison:

Oh yeah, Adobe has a pretty cool web service for converting bitmap images to vector graphics. It isn't particularly sophisticated, but it made my life a lot easier for getting the joker grin into a vector format. I had to do a bit of manual editing, but it turned out pretty nice.

I'm tired of shitty web sites full of garbage. It's such a soul-sucking waste of effort to come up with copy that nobody will ever read and that nobody cared about to begin with. The goal was simple: show when classes are, how much they cost, and how to contact the owners.

They didn't have a web site before. The owner talked about wanting to attract more kids so he can get a regular kids class going, and I want my kids to spend more time in the gym and have more bodies to work with, so it seemed like a fun opportunity to do something simple and creative.

There's still some stuff I'd like to do (social links in the header, and update the schedule presentation so it's a little more attractive), but I think this is a good representation of the type of web site philosophy I've developed with regard to small businesses that don't need dynamic sites or CMS-like functionality. It's basically a prettified business card.

It's HTML/CSS hosted out of /var/www/ by nginx. Stupidly easy. I might just download Filezilla to update the site in the future. I've put around 20 hours into it. About half of that was in Figma laying things out. 6-8 hours in Inkscape and Krita doing graphics, and the rest in HTML and CSS.

What does gyrate dot org think? Should I end my life?
