great action sequences with somewhat tedious story marred a bit by overacting and bad casting for at least one new main character. it's ultimately forgivable, because it doesn't devalue or undermine the punisher character, it just makes for some awkward appearances that aren't bad enough to be comical, but are bad enough to be distracting in a way that reduces the discerning viewer's immersion. I'm sure if I blasted my head with X-rays for a few days I might be functioning at the iq necessary to not be distracted by the acting, but it's not a significant or inherently negative experience to watch. it's like a fly that is flying around you, but doesn't ever land on you or get in the way of what you're doing. it's demanding your attention sometimes, but isn't impeding it. similar to the fly, or white noise, it becomes a background feature of the production as the keen mind recognizes its relevance to perception as nonexistent. the punisher remains the only MCU franchises that I claim to like. it doesn't really seem to pander much, and feels like it was made for the character, rather than being made for the audience. I like that.

it's also cool that it's only 45 minutes. I'm tired of watching dumb ass shit that is like 2 hours long, but worth only 1 hour of content. it's disrespectful of the time I have left in this consciousness. a little punisher slice of life. thinking about it now, perhaps the length had some sort of causal influence on the awkward acting and melodramatic scenes. it was compressed.

good stuff in the comic book movie world. things like PTSD and other abstract sort of concepts are difficult to portray cinematically. in comics those things make more sense because it's easier to accept cognitive direction with lower resolution symbolic representation than higher. as the depth of the representation of realistic perception becomes more saturated, more dense, more interdependent on the consistency of its complex abstract relations, dissonance that interrupts the harmony of the experience stands further out, or becomes distractingly perceptible.

so I accept that some scenes are very difficult to portray empathizably, and believe that the punisher did fine with that concept of the character. it wasn't so bad that I couldn't just ignore it. maybe that's more of an indication of me growing up a bit, losing some testosterone, and recognizing that hey, being a woman isn't half bad, I think I'd like to try that.
