i've used every version of windows except 8 as an actually desktop since 3.11. people have complained about every new windows version since millennium, but they've all been fairly configurable and accessible (even 10, after some years of concessions from microsoft) without too much hacking. i tried windows 11 with the same level of skepticism i've exercised when trying other new windows versions. most people who complain about windows are just annoying whiny faggots who either don't know what they're talking about and are just saying things, or are pedantic technodorks crying about trivial bullshit that doesn't matter in a desktop os.

windows 11 is the worst operating system released in the history of computers. it's slow, it is full of stupid bullshit that sucks, and it gets in the way of everything the user wants to do. people are switching to linux because microsoft is in the final stages of wringing out value from the remainders of its users. windows 11 feels gross to use.

i've been using linux as a desktop for gaming since like 2021 or early 2022 (a few months after windows 11 was released), and bought a macbook a week ago for recording music and stuff. i used windows as my desktop/music recording/media os for like 35 years. windows 11 is insultingly, soul-suckingly bad.

mac is like linux, but you dont have to mess with anything, so it's perfect for getting work done. linux for gaming is brand new to me, and it's amazing!

i've had a macbook from a client that i've used, and it's okay, but having to use homebrew and postgres.app for stuff is annoying compared to linux. i'm going to try the new macbook on my dock if it's compatible & see how macos behaves with multiple monitors. if it's anything like the xfce/windows experience, i may just switch to it for work & use my "portable desktop" for media/gaming away from my gamer desktop.

homebrew is great! you need to make a brewfile with all the stuff you like to have installed and keep it in a git repo with all your dotfiles. then whenever you get a new computer, just run brew bundle to install everything. you can also keep a lot of your macos preferences in git with the defaults command. you might also try https://www.pgadmin.org/
