the reply notification is cool, but it is kind of annoying that i have to visit the notifications to dismiss them, and they're dismissed in total upon visiting the replies page. it'd be cool if:

  • clicking a link to a reply dismissed the notification
  • a user action was required to dismiss/acknowledge all

i guess to reduce the overhead of querying the db to determine if a notification exists every time a user visits a reply, the reply link/parent links could post & redirect to the reply if the reply notification hasn't been dismissed yet. if it has been dismissed they could just be direct links.

btw i am not trans (im gay)

Well gay, this is excellent feedback, but let me tell you a secret about how notifications work currently: In order to keep everything as fast and minimal as possible, there is no "notification" in the database. I just track the last time you looked at the replies page, then every reply that's newer than that timestamp is considered "new." I agree it's not perfect, but it sure is fast (and simple)! Hopefully I'll have some improvements soon though. There are a bunch of little things related to navigation and redirects I want to fix next that should help a bit.

you know what would make this web site really fast is if it was just a single page with some gyrate dot org ascii art and a cool catchy tag line like "where high tech meets low life" or something

This website would go even faster if someone would just delete it off the internet.
