OK, this should work a little bit better now. I go back and forth about whether it's more annoying to have to dismiss notifications myself or to have them dismissed automatically, but hopefully I found a middle ground that isn't too terrible for now.
it's annoying to dismiss them yourself if it's the only way to do it, but if it can't be done per reply view then i don't care this webb site sucks!

You just have to make sure to reply in chronological order, and manually increment the value of since in the query string after each reply. It's easy for super geniuses like me, but I have no idea how to help "regular" people... I've been checking out how other sites do it, and a lot of them just mark everything as read as soon as you look at the page, which is super annoying when I reply to something and I have to do work to figure out where I left off.
I might have to come back to this later because I'm almost ready to start working on "the algorithm" so we can have a real front page.
