Happy Birthday to Me!

Since my birthday is coming up, I wanted to remind you all about my Amazon.com wishlist. I’m only about 2GB into my 30GB Ipod, so I need CDs!

Also, if you use Nagios to monitor windows machines, you might find this project useful.

Monthly Update

It sure has been quiet around here lately, so I guess everything is going according to plan! You might be surprised at how annoying it is to constantly have the lowest forms of human life commenting on your blog every day. I probably used to find that stuff funny, but I seem to be rapidly transforming into a boring old man.

I recently discovered Akismet, so you can post comments without logging in again.

I’ve been super busy at work for the last couple months with my Zabbix to Nagios migration project. We originally chose Zabbix for its built-in performance graphing capabilities and easy setup, but after a year of using it in production, we found that it just wasn’t flexible enough for us (especially in the area of alert notifications). During the migration, I spent a lot of time looking at different ways of monitoring Windows machines with Nagios, but I couldn’t seem to find a good collection of check plugins. That’s when I decided to fire up Visual Studio and write my own, and after two solid weeks of learning/writing (mostly learning) C# .NET, I had a pretty nice framework for developing Nagios plugins for Windows. Consequentially, I now have a check plugin for almost everything I’m interested in monitoring. I plan on releasing the project under an open-source license in the very near future, because frankly, I think this is something the Nagios community desperately needs.

I’ve been spending so much time at work lately, that I think I might be a workaholic. Then again, I could just be addicted to the dual monitor setup I have at the office. When I get home, I feel like I’ve been transported back to the late nineties, when big, beige, 19″ CRT monitors were all the rage. It’s ridiculous. Sometimes I wish this thing would blow up already, so I could justify buying a couple nice flat panels.

The New Haven Advocate has a review of the new Bloarzeyd album. We also revamped the website for the first time in a few years.
